Exchange or wallet?
Answer in brief
Both work. An exchange is quicker if your coins are already there; your own wallet is more private and lets you pick the network fee.
From an exchange
- Choose Withdraw, not Send to a friend or Pay
- Pick the coin and the exact network on the invoice
- Some exchanges deduct the withdrawal fee from the amount. Add it, so the invoice receives the full sum
- Withdrawals can wait for an exchange security check; leave time before the invoice expires
From your own wallet
- You choose the fee and the transfer leaves at once
- The exchange that sold you the coins can still see it went to your wallet, but not what you did next
- Scan the QR code or paste the address; never type it by hand
